Exiting Kodi - Delay

Sat Jun 06, 2020 7:27 pm

When I exit Kodi, running on my Raspberry Pi 4, it 1) turns the TV off and 2) takes anywhere up to 15 seconds to get back to the desktop... (which I can obviously only see once I've turned the TV back on!!!!) Anyone else experience this? and have a solution?!?!

Kodi is just slow to exit. It is the same on my PC, Linux or Windows. The TV is most likely turning off because of a TV power-saving setting at loss of signal.
You can check your CEC settings just to make sure a cec command isn't being sent by Kodi
Under System -> Input Devices -> Peripherals -> CEC adapter

On the RPi4B...I've noticed that if Kodi's set resolution is not the same as the desktop resolution there is delay during exit...

once I've set Kodi's resolution to be the same as the desktop's, then the exit delay is gone....

I don't run Kodi on my Pi4, but I do have it running on a 3B+ and I've noticed the opposite (though this may be tempered by experience). On my desktop, which is an order of magnitude faster than my Pi, it takes a while to exit, whilst on the 3B+ it's surprisingly fast.

If I shutdown the 3B+ from Kodi, rather than exiting, it's even faster. (It is the only Pi I shutdown each day).
Headless PI. OMG, someone cut it's head off. Oh, hang on. it didn't have one to start with.

I think you would find the close.kodi plugin I have described at the following post as very useful:

Vlc hard crashes at:

I have found it allows kodi to exit quickly and reliably. It can be found at:
