Pi4 Kodi TV Headend

Sat Jun 06, 2020 6:56 pm

Hi,
Wondering whether someone with more expierence than me, might be able to solve this one.
I have TV Headend Server running on a Pi3, running raspbian buster.
My Windows laptop + Kodi finds and plays all the channels seemlessly.

My problem is that my Pi4 4GB with Buster + Kodi 18.7 does not. The channels show and they do actually play... however they are far from smooth and the dubbing can be about 5 seconds out. 1080p movies play absolutely perfectly, so I'm wondering whether it's a problem with decoding the TV channel on the fly? A codec issue?

Thanks for any pointers.

I have a similar experience to you. I just posted a message on the HAT forum regarding this.

I'm aiming to use tvheadend with the TV Hat on Kodi, but the performance is terrible and unwatchable.

Have you tried VLC (Vetinari> 3.0.8)?
.m3u playlist for each TV channel RPo 4b plays smoothly in P1080 resolution.

I can't seem to find Kodi 18.7 for ARM. A link to a ppa would be helpful.

There is no Oficial Kodi PPA for linux ARM. Latest version available for Raspbian is 18.6. You have to wait for 18.7
to reach the repo.

I had a similar problem just last week with a 3B+, which I've repurposed to be a media server for the bedroom. I did all of the config on a wired interface, and got the horrible TV playback from the TVHeadend server.

However, setting it up on WiFi (which is how it runs finally anyway, since I don't have a switch in the bedroom) and there are no such problems.
Headless PI. OMG, someone cut it's head off. Oh, hang on. it didn't have one to start with.
