Hi,

I need a HDMI transmitter and receiver, I have a DVB-S decoder in the living room and I want to see channels in the kitchen. Some HDMI wireless tx/rx exist and you can find them in Amazon, anyway, >160$.

Can I do it with 2 Raspberry Pi? RPiA tx, RPIB rx:

decoder in the living room --- HDMI ---> RPiA ---- Wifi or Other (IR,...) --> RPiB --- HDMI ---> tv in the kitchen

Given you will need to buy a HDMI convertor plus Pi's at each end, it's probably cheaper to buy a compatible DVB-S USB adapter and PI4 or similar for the kitchen.

The DVB-S signal is encrypted, so I can't bypass the decoder

The HDMI ports on any Raspberry Pi are output only.

Or use an USB 3.0 HDMI capture device, slightly cheaper (at the time of writing at €55) and supports 1920x1080@60fps.

I have this at home, haven't connected to to an RPI yet but it works fine on my Linux laptop.
Allegedly also supports 4K but I've only used it at 1920x1080@60fps.

Hey, thanks. Can it connect to Wifi, and used as a streaming server? I would connect a Fire Stick with VLC Player via WiFi

Hey, thanks. Can it connect to Wifi, and used as a streaming server? I would connect a Fire Stick with VLC Player via WiFi

It's a USB device, so you need to connect it to your TV an then via USB to the Pi and then stream via e.g. VLC via WiFi (or ethernet) to the Firestick (or another Pi). I suppose you then need to figure out how to remote control it.

Hey @jj_0, can you capture in Linux both video and audio with your USB device?

Yes, on my regular Ubuntu laptop I've captured both video and audio using OBS Studio. On the Pi 4 it captures video and audio with VLC.

Thanks. I've tried both HDMI (Measy 585, 5.8Ghz) and SD (Metronic, 2.4Ghz) radio repeaters, but they both lose quality on the receiver. I guess that the reason is too much Radio "noise" in my flat.

So I'm quite convinced to go for:
1. Raspberry Pi
2. HDMI USB 3.0 Capture device
3. Firestick (or any cheaper Android stick with VLC)
4. IR remote control repeater

I surfed the web and I found this device (the sender): LKV373A V3.0 HDMI Extender HD 1080P Over Lan RJ45 Cat5/6

It's about $30 in eBay, cheaper than HDMI USB 3.0 capture devices, and connection to the LAN.

I've ordered one, I'll have it hopefully in 1 month, it's from China.

Maybe for online gaming it's not the right product, latency, according to one of the above's videos, is >1 second.

It seems that the device can't remove the HDMI encryption (HDCP), anyway, some HDMI splitter can do it: https://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theat ... mi-signal/

So my project will be:

1. Raspberry Pi with VLC as streamer
2. LKV373A V3.0 HDMI Extender - the Sender
3. Firestick (or any cheaper Android stick with VLC, or any IPTV software client, like Smart IPTV)
4. IR remote control repeater

Probably I'll buy an Ethernet to USB adapter for the Raspberry Pi as well

and attach the LKV373A to the adapter building an internal private LAN between the Raspberry Pi and the LKV373A, I don't want to send MPEGTS packets all over my Home LAN.
