Anime Media Center?

Mon Dec 10, 2012 2:10 am

I'm looking to buy an RPi and use XBMC to make a little media center, primarily for my anime. Basically what I'd like to know is how well do '.mkv' files play, specifically 720p ones. And is it okay for me to use my external HDD, which I store all my anime on.

Plays .mkv fine 720p & 1080p from a powered HDD

However, your Anime might be encoded at Hi10 (10 Bit) ... which the Raspberry Pi Does Not Support

Hi10 encoding is prevelent in the "Anime Scene" more info about it and what you need here:

Use "mediainfo" to examine your Anime files to see if they are Hi10

This is a Post Regarding the Matter:

Just realised you said it was Hi10 - we don't support 10bit data, as it requires double the bandwidth and double the processing power, for very little if any perceived benefit. Some people claim a benefit for Anime etc, but using it means you reduce the number of players than can play it, and the difference in picture quality is unnoticeable.
