repacement for samsung Allshare as its rubbish

Sun Apr 21, 2019 7:33 pm

I use Samsung Allshare to play video files on my PC on my Samsung TV but it is not updated and increasingly will not play new codecs etc. SO I want to replace it with a new media player. Currently PC is connected by ethernet via to my TV via my BT router. So I need to some instructions on what I nneed to do to use a raspberry pi as a media play. Can I get a remote control for it for example. thanks for any help given

The Pi will connect directly to your TV via an HDMI cable. Using that, if your TV supports CEC (Samsung call it AnyNet+ I think) then you can use your TV remote to control the Pi.

Normally the best thing to use is either LibreElec or OSMC, both of which are self-contained media player set-ups based around Kodi. You can then point it at the media stored on your network (using your PC as a server for example if it's stored there) and play it that way.
