Kodi crashes on start (logfile)

Mon Nov 12, 2018 5:38 pm

Hi. I am running a Raspbian Strecht on the Raspberry pi 3B+. I installed kodi via apt-get and when I tried to start it it makes a strange crash. The bluetooth keyboard and the USB mouse freezes, but I still can see the clock updating the time and the CPU level usage on the widget of the top bar.But Kodi never starts.

If I take a look on the kodi.log I only found a three errors, and just want to point it's at 18:08:37.124 when the log starts:

First error:

Code: Select all

18:08:37.206 T:1911193600 ERROR: DBus: Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown - The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files
And the ending part of the log, where two more errors appear.

Code: Select all

18:08:39.751 T:1911193600 WARNING: JSONRPC: Could not parse type "Setting.Details.SettingList"
18:08:40.022 T:1911193600 NOTICE: initialize done

18:08:40.244 T:1911193600 WARNING: no keymap support (requires /dev/tty0 - CONFIG_VT)
I don't think the JSONRPC is something that involves me, but the other 2 erros maybe do.

How can I fix this crashing start?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

Is this installed from the repository?

Kodi needs lots of gfx memory, 192mb from memory, and you are forced to use the legacy OpenGL driver, the new drivers will cause issues....

My advice would be to stear clear and use one of the distros for Kodi.

It is probably low memory dedicated to the gpu, only a full log will tell. In the meanwhile, check this thread for installing and configuring Kodi on Raspbian Stretch:

Ouch I forgot to tell to you about I had set the GPU mem to 256 and when I try to set the Original non-GL desktop driver it prompts that driver is disabled.

Also to say I installed kodi with apt-get and many packages where installed at thar moment.

I am not on my house now but if you need it later I can upload the full log

It seems that your user Pi does not have the required permissions. Double check the link I provided some posts above.
Also that log doesn't have debug enabled, we can't see much. If it crashes at startup you should have the crashlog in /home/pi. Post that instead.

I don't know where are the logfiles in /home/pi/ you want me to share. I did a "ls -a" and I don't see anything suspicios to contain it. According to this link ( https://garyhall.org.uk/raspberry-pi-log-files.html ) there are no logs there, so I did another thing. I told to Kodi to create a much more verbose log.

Here is the verbosed log of Kodi start: https://paste.kodi.tv/ajilidayas.kodi

Hope this helps to find a solution, and plese tell me where were supposed to be the logs in /home/pi

PD: Maybe it will be helpfull to run dsmeg and thell to it to save the info on a .txt. Now I am going to sleep but if tomorrow I see there is no solution here I will do it and see what happens

Just to give an end to this, and maybe to work as a help to others in the same situation: the problem it was I am using a VNC connection, so thats why Kodi didn't appeared

Now I am using VLC player while connected with a tablet via the VNC connection. Less fancy but usefull anyways
