n00b xmbc

Hello,

Sorry if this has already been asked, but you'll have to excuse me I'm a total Linux n00b!

I have a RPi with a Logitech K400 connected to a Sony Bravia. My 400gb+ movies and TV series collection are stored on a XP machine connected to my network. Yesterday I installed the latest distro of Raspbmc, but I couldn't get my k400 to work. After many hours of googling I gave up and returned to the latest wheezy.

I want to use XMBC, its 70% of the reason I bought the RPi!

The question is, would there be more chance of getting my keyboard to work on another XMBC specific distro like OpenELEC or XBian? Or maybe compiling XMBC on wheezy?

Please any help would be very appreciated!

I am interested in the RPi for exactly the same use, XBMC, but it seems to be troublesome for most.

I am using openelec/xbmc version and am now so pleased with it I just sold my media center PC and am now using the pi full time.

There are a few niggles (itv player slight issue) but im sure these will be resolved.

performance wise it is very good now and plays all my films / tv series (all hd x264 format) very smoothly.

I have not used it for music at all yet.

XBMC does work well , but the people who have issues are those who complain -
it's a statistics/perception thing.

As far as I've read the problem I'm having isn't to do with XMBC but with the original distro used to make Raspbmc. I'm also not complaining, but asking for help. But thanks for your useful, helpful words of wisdom...

My Logitech G110 (Backlit Gaming Keyboard) works fine with XBian 0.8.2

(Also using an AVICO SMP1-1A,5V Power Supply)

Yes, do a search for other post requiring suggestions to get the keyboard to work correctly. I'm using the keyboard fine.

Woohoo! Xbian! It works! Keyboard, it recognizes my smb network... Awesome! Now im adding my movie collection, goes slowly... But i have time

OK, I updated Xbian to 0.8.2 and my keyboard stopped working. Its a problem with the latest kernel. Thank god for the Xbian forum. Schtack posted the following solution:

sudo nano /etc/rc.local

and add this three lines

sleep 10
rmmod hid-logitech-dj
modprobe hid-logitech-dj

save and restart xbian .

I suppose that this will work for any raspberry pi with the latest kernel! Thanks Schtack! You the man!
