B+ and Plex

Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:31 am

Hi All,

I've recently got board of how rubbish miniDLNA can be with the TVs in my house, and realised that most smart TVs have some sort of Plex app that you can run and hook up to a Plex Server. Given this, I thought that maybe I should chance my arm at running Plex to server up photos from my NAS to the TVs for when I want to reminisce at old times.

So, queue following the online guides on how to install plex, only to find out that none of them work with the B+ (had it for years as a VPN, NAS, DLNA, and now Alexa Skill hosting). I don't want it to do media encoding (that will come later), I just want it to serve up a photo folder.

Is there anyway to get Plex Media Server to run on a B+, or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade to the latest version of board?

As no one knows what guide you have been using and why it is rubbish, just use a 3B guide:

By the way you should go into raspi-config and over clock, most will run at 900Mhz++

Thats pretty much the same steps as the two guides I have used so far...

https://www.htpcguides.com/install-plex ... erry-pi-2/
https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-plex-server/

All of which works good for the 2 and 3, but I just want image serving on a Pi 1 B+. That code doesn't seem to work for the Pi 1 B+, I think because the Pi 2/3 are ARM7, and the Pi 1 is ARM6?

I did try following the steps in the HTPC guide link to manually install using a download deb file from the Plex website. Basically I downloaded the Netgear ARM6 software and tried to use that, to no avail. Maybe I need to use the ARM6 RN2xx version?

I decided not to use rasplex as I want to use the box for other stuff as well, which I why I am sticking to Raspbian.

Apologies, you are correct it is not compiled for ARMv6, so good excuse to buy a RPi 3B:

Hi Guys, once again I have gotten in over my head, I am running plex on a pi 3 and I have my movies on a sinology NAS in a shared folder called movies. Plex on the pi can see the server "TonyNAS" but can not connect to it. The server "tonynas" is unavailable.
Any help at all. Thanks
