DVB-T2 TV with Raspberry Pi 3?

I would like to watch the German terrestrial TV broadcast (DVB-T2) with my Raspberry Pi 3.
I have bought a Geniatech T230C and could receive HD channels with Tvheadend 4.2 in LibreELEC 8.0.1.
However, the playback stutters, the audio gets asynchronous and after about 30 seconds some sort of reload happens. Moreover the stream stops after some time. Since there is also the hot CPU warning despite my open case and heat sinks it looks like currently the system is not able to decode the H.265 / HEVC stream in real-time.

Now I am wondering if there is any chance of viewing German terrestrial TV with a Raspberry Pi becoming possible for example through advances in the decoding libraries or through hardware decoding support by USB sticks or if one should not expect this to happen.

H265 is/will be suppoorted, but not at the highest resolution/framerate:

You can't. All new German DVB-T2 channels use H265 1920p50 and that is simply too high for the RPi.

Satellite and Cable TV run fine, as they are all using H264 (and MPEG2 for most SD channels).

You can't view h265 real-time.

You can record h265 and post-process the files to something the Pi can display. Probably better to do this on a separate device to the one you're using as the front-end.

hi, where does the hevc encoding executed?

my plan is to install tvheadend server on a rpi3, attach a Geniatech T230 stick and to watch the streams on hardware which can encode x265 codec like odroid c2 and newer iOS devices.

does the encoding happens on the server or on the client side?
