Dual boot XBMC and Raspbian?

Tue Sep 18, 2012 11:13 am

Basically, i want to setup my SD card so when you boot it up, you select Raspbian (Desktop interface) or XBMC from a boot menu. I dont want it to auto boot into anything.

Do any of the 3 XBMC distros have this as an option? XBMC is great and all, but i would still like access to the desktop interface.

If none of them have an option, could i install one and change the boot settings? If so, which one would work?

The easiest way would be to just install XBMC in Raspbian: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 66&t=12455
{sig} Setup: Original version Raspberry Pi (B, rev1, 256MB), Dell 2001FP monitor (1600x1200), 8GB Class 4 SD Card with Raspbian and XBMC, DD-WRT wireless bridge

I did this by
1. Install Raspbian
2. Install RetroPie
3. under RetroPie-Setup, I installed Kodi
4. Made RetroPie boot automatically (instead of Raspbian/startx)
5. Under EmulationStation, you can select Raspbian or Kodi (or DosBox or any of the emulators)

This is the best way IMO. Another way would be to use either BerryBoot, or NOOBS (OpenElec + Raspbian).
