Want Gaming, Kodi and music playe

Thu Jan 26, 2017 11:41 pm

Is it possible/easy to set up a single raspberry pi 3 to act as a gaming emulation device, kodi box, and music player?

First 2 seem pretty easy

For the music player it'd be nice to be able to browse the library on the TV screen whilst having the audio output via a usb dac into my hifi system.

Do I need some sort of dual boot system, what are the practicalities of setting this up?

Kodi supports music as well as video (TV/movie) shows. And it supports many/most DAC's as well.

Its definitely possible but it requires alot of work. You come out better creating a dual boot setup with retropie. Install dual boot of OSMC with the lite version of raspbian. Install retropie on lite raspbian. Now you have a dual boot between kodi and retropie. Kodi can be used to play music as well.

Welcome, Retropie includes Kodi Multimedia Software: https://retropie.org.uk

Kodi can output Audio via HDMi or Audio Jack or USB Sound Card or GPIO Sound Card.

Though HDMi Audio is good quality so you could use an extractor like:

OSMC + Retrosmc will probably do what you want.

There are also experimental Kodi builds with retrogaming support added: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/testing-kod ... pi/20631/1
