Western Digital Media Stick & CM3

Wed Jan 18, 2017 8:50 pm

The CM3 seems to work fine in the Media Stick, in as much as I can play 1080p HEVC in OSMC/Kodi without anything bad happening :)

I modified the case to allow the installation of a heatsink: http://imgur.com/a/YRzvP

Yes the heatsink may be a little tall, but it's one I had to hand & was already perfectly sized to fit without cutting ;)

With the Big Buck Bunny 1080p HEVC (downloaded from elecard.com) running in a loop, temperature rose to 56C, about 40 degrees above ambient.

I'll be doing the same thing at some point. My heat sink won't be near that big though.
Something like this, https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/heatsink probably.
It will be a while before I make my purchase so all I can do is wait and watch what others do at this point

Hi,

I can't get any life out of my Media Stick beyond getting the eMMC flash mode LED indication. But it seems that the Media Stick is happy to flash the LED even when the CM3 is not present! My Mac is completely useless! and my Ubuntu laptop just sits there with "Waiting for BCM.....". At this point I have now idea if the Media Stick is faulty, the CM3 is faulty, some combination of both or if as you say the USB port simply cannot supply the current.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
