Hello,

I have been working on a multi room audio project.

I now have my Raspberry Pi running Max2Play, but I am wondering how do I go about attaching speakers to my Raspberry Pi?

Do I need to use a DAC, an Amp or both?

Any help, guidance or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

The Raspberry Pi has Audio Out via the TRRS4 AV Socket, it is line level only so would need amplified speakers:

Audio can also be delivered through HDMI to an amplifier that way. There are also high-quality DAC HATs available, which again would be used to feed an amplifier (or active speakers).

Hi 1uke_,
If you are looking to get the best audio out of the Pi with our software, we would recommend using a DAC HAT for active speakers or stereo systems and an Amp HAT for passive speakers to be connected directly to the Pi.
Here is a chart we recently created comparing the different HAT sound cards for the Pi.
