Re: XBMC OpenELEC and LCD HD44780 via GPIO

make sure the r/w and db0-db3 lines are tied low. That is a common 'gotcha'.
Also, to start with, I would ignore LCDproc driving the display and get say a python program working with it first. At least then you know the hardware is wired correctly.
You should find plenty of python examples if you search the forum.
Hope this helps,

texy, thank you for fast response.

Sorry for my english, but what you mean by "lines are tied low"?
For now bit0 to bit 3 are NC and pin 5 RW is GND.
I already double check wiring but once again will not hurts.

Can I run python programs under openelec?
I do not know to much about python.

If it is a two row lcd do you see the bloks light up at startup on the first line? The adjustment of the potmeter should be seen on the lcd when turning.

If you put the lines 0 to 3 with resistors to GND you will make them low and not take the risk that the LCD gets a false byte on the input and we use in this case only 4 bits (nibble). In the case of the Raspberry it is important to remember to hardwire the RW line to GND on the pcb because if the LCD can write to the bus it will happen with 5 volt instead of 3,3 volt.

First apologize for my English, I use google translator.
I bought this screen, thinking it would be plug and play, but far from reality, now I'm lost, I have also opened several fronts and I'm a bit saturated:

https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi-RG ... r_name=lcd

I have installed OpenELEC of modi, and installing this screen or turn on. I had to install Raspbian, and I followed this tutorial Manufacturer:

http://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-16x2 ... y-pi/usage

Now turn on, but only square displayed on the screen, and no longer continue, I reinstalled OpenELEC and I have configured in the system vfd screen and LCD HD44780 model but still with squares and not show any information . Can anyone help me?
Thank you.

Hy everybody.
I bought this LCD and masterboard:

How can I use this LCD with my RasPi OpenElec?
I don't use linux only Windows. Is there any way to use LCD without reinstall my OpenElec sd card?

The vendor has given lots of clues.

Read his product description at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221313226673? ... 1497.l2649

Get a new 4GB SDCard and put a copy of Raspbian on it. The you can learn how to use your hardware, you can develop the programs you need. Once that's done you'll be able to switch back to OpenELEC and install your new programs on that system.

I don't think OpenELEC is a good development system, but stuff developed on Raspbian should run on OpenELEC.

Remember the difference between the RPi and Windows is that you don't get everything done for you. Get your hands dirty and learn some programming.

Regarding the hd44780.so driver for lcdproc on Rpi via GPIO.

Is this driver implemented in the Sourceforce ?
I know some Gotham/XBMC dev. now is building in lcdproc 0.5.7 into Gotham, but I can't get the "ConnectionType" RPI to work on the build.. Only if I replace the hd44780.so from this thread

Best regards.

Firstly sorry for my bad English ;)
I'm struggling with my lcd for 2 days and i can't get it working on raspbmc. I've connected it correctly (i was able to display some text on raspbian) but i can't install software on raspbmc properly. Is there possibility that someone can do instruction for me like copy paste too install and configure lcdproc because this link http://www.tech-fruits.com/hardware/set ... pi-part-2/ isn't working.
thank you in advance
