YouTube on Raspbmc

Tue Aug 28, 2012 10:53 am

Hi All,

Just got my Pi running with Raspbmc. Normal video playback works fine, as does the TED app (yay!), but the youtube app is currently being totally fail. Basically, I can browse the category tree fine, but as soon as I try to hit a leaf node, after a while of attempted loading I get a script failed error message and I'm returned to the previous screen. The same happens for searches. I get the same whether I'm logged in to youtube or not.

My searches for help on the topic have somewhat drawn a blank as all the results are youtube videos relevant to all the search terms less youtube, which is pretty much useless.

Anyone able to offer a suggestion as to how to get this working or whether it's a lost cause?

Tim

What version of the plugin are you using??

YouTube works fine with OpenELEC apart from the annoying few seconds hang after finishing a clip.

Youtube is version 3.1.0. Same problem happening with South Park 1.0.0. Also Transmission doesn't start, with a message of "Failed to connect to transmission" and then asks whether I want the settings dialog. Interestingly, I get a snatch of transmission interface before that dialog pops up.

I'll have a play with openELEC and see if that's any better.

Assuming you're trying to use the transmission plug-in with transmission-daemon, be aware that the settings file you need to modify is in /etc/transmission-daemon. Had me scratching my head for ages! Make sure the RPC settings are configured correctly in the settings.json file.

YouTube (3.1.0) and iPlayer (UK only) both working fine here on Raspbmc. Searching is a little slow and has timed out occasionally, but in the main, is fine

Got it working but what is the deal with the little pause before the video ends?

I mean I can live with it but it is just a tad annoying lol

My youtube is also working now.
Don't know how but it's working perfectly (using raspbmc).

I'm also having the same issue. I've tried both Youtube and the Wired.com add-on with no success. I've even tried a restart, but still getting the script error when I try to launch both add-ons. The Engadget add-on works fine, but the video is only playing on part of the screen.

YouTube 3.1.0 is busted on every platform, according to thus bug report: http://code.google.com/p/youtubexbmc/is ... tail?id=42

However, it seems somebody has managed to fix it with some clever programming: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?pi ... pid1191793

I have yet to try it on the Pi, but I can confirm that I have the same issued described by the Bug Report.

Hmmm...weird,youtube plugin stopped working.
I can browse but when the video should start to play it never does.
Don't get a script error,it says the item could not be played and i should check the logs.
But the log is huge and i don't really know what to look for, probably an error message of some kind.
Bummer!

Yes and no,i've tried to install both zip-files but then i get a script-error,however this was on openelec and not raspbmc.
I still have to try them on raspbmc.

I personally recommend Xbian. The wifi support is plugin play friendly, youtube and most addons work great, and you never get that music glitch where it stops playing after so many songs.
