3.5mm remote socket

Sun Apr 03, 2016 11:02 am

Most of my hi-fi gear all have a 3.5mm remote socket, manufacturers from: Naim, Arcam, Denon, Sony, Pure.

Anyone know if it is possible to control these equipment using GPIO? I'm not sure of the specs when it comes to voltages, impedance etc, from a guess it is IR codes.

I think it should be possible using a transistor/mosfet to control the input and LiRC to send the IR codes to a GPIO pin. ;)

Edit: It may be better to use an opto-coupler. :)

You should be able to reverse engineer the hardware interface by looking at the schematics in the relevant service manual. A lot of those manuals are available on-line if you search. You don't need one for your exact model as the manufacturers use the same interface spec on all their models.
