Just brainstorming... (disclaimer: I don't know anything about XBMC scripting)

Perhaps a python script can be written to call "tvservice -o" (for "off" if I remember correctly) after a timeout (or if the script is run explicitly). And then somehow trigger it to run "tvservice -p" (for "preferred") when it needs to be turned back on?

thank you alvin, did not know about tvservice. i am now able to shutdown the output using something like this in crontab

Code: Select all

curl -su xbmc:pass -H "Content-type: application/json" -X POST -d'{"jsonrpc":"2.0","method":"Player.GetActivePlayers","id":"1"}' http://localhost:8080/jsonrpc?UpdateState | grep -q '"result":\[\]' && /opt/vc/bin/tvservice -o
too bad that neither

Code: Select all

tvservice -p
nor

Code: Select all

fbset -accel true
plays well with xbmc (screen is not refreshed). if anyone has an idea, please share.

I realise this is a very old thread, but if anyone is interested in a working solution, see here.
