I`m having a problem with my instalation on a RPi 2 B.
I installed bit it wont open. I tried to open on terminal and it says:

ImportError: cannot import name ImageTk

Could you help me?
I'll look into it but meanwhile, try typing the following commands into a terminal and see if that works:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install python-imaging-tk
sudo apt-get install python-pil.imagetk

Ubeify is a stand alone program for use with any Debian based operating system, including Raspbian. All you need to do is download and install it on your existing OS. No need to flash/re-flash anything.

Very nice interface, as in pretty. Unfortunately it is missing some key features that omxplayer simply refuses to allow. Like removing entries from any list or preventing continous play of the playlist on exit of Ubeify. At one point I had 4 copies of the same song running at once and had to reboot to stop them.
Will be keeping an eye on Ubeify though, shows promise.

Ubeify Update: 20170802

  • removed uyt.py. Ubeify now exclusively uses youtube-dl to parse videos
  • fixed bug which could result in VLC being used instead of OMXPlayer when running on a Raspberry Pi. This would result in the kind of errors Nick was reporting in the post above
  • fixed bug which could result in missing 'starred' album artwork
  • omdbapi.com, which is used to retrieve TV and movie information while scanning your files, is now a private api. I've purchased a basic licence so Ubeify can continue to use it
  • upgraded VLC Portable (used when running under Windows) from 2.1.5 to 2.2.6. It's a lot larger in size but more stable
  • various code cleanup and removal of unused functions
  • Deezer chart feeds have been depreciated and replaced by Deezer playlist equivalents. The file /ubeify/usr/config/Browse/charts.txt has been updated to reflect this. Please note that upgrading an existing Ubeify installation will not update this user editable file but you can download the new charts.txt file here to merge into your own version.
To upgrade to 20170802 from an existing installation, select 'Update Ubeify' from the options menu and restart the software. New users can download Ubeify from http://www.ubeify.co.uk/

Enjoy :D

Lets see, Adobe Media Player, and Rhapsody are the only two I can think of.

Is it possible to close the player at the end of the video instead of looping? I can't quite locate it in src/ubeify.py

Thanks

I know you posted a response to this question before, but that was 2 years ago. So I am just checking for an update on the matter.

Is there a way to get the audio to come through a bluetooth speaker? I have a bluetooth speaker that is already set up and working on other programs; like a simple video on youtube. But so far I can only get the audio to come through the analog audio jack on Ubeify.

I also had a separate question about changing the resolution of the program. I am using a 3.5" touchscreen. When I open Ubeify, I am not able to adjust the window size to fit in the size of my screen. I only get to see the upper left most portion of the window.

Thank you

Sorry to disappoint but, as far as I understand it, it is not possible to use bluetooth audio with OMXplayer. However, Ubeify can also use VLC instead of OMXplayer so you may be able to get Bluetooth audio working with that. I'll add a toggle switch in Ubeify's options menu to enable/disable VLC in a future update, but until then, you'll need to edit /ubeify/src/ubeify.py to enable VLC:

First, make sure you have VLC installed by running:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install vlc
Then in /ubeify/src/ubeify.py comment out the line starting with if 'BCM2709' with a hash/pound symbol (#) like the code snippet below. Save the file and delete /ubeify/src/ubeify.pyc. Restart Ubeify and it will now use VLC as default.

Code: Select all

        # windows, linux or raspberry pi?
        self.playerOptionNum=1
        if os.name!="nt":
            chipTest = open('/proc/cpuinfo').read()
            #if 'BCM2709' in chipTest or 'BCM2708' in chipTest or 'BCM2835' in chipTest: self.playerOptionNum=0
            self.osType="linux"
        else:
            self.osType="win"
            self.usb_info = []

        # get list of valid hard/usb drives in a thread
        self.getDrives()

Unfortunately I don't have a 3.5" screen to test Ubeify with. Are you able to post a cell phone photo of the screen running Ubeify? That should be enough for me to work out how to fix the screen resolution problems you're having. Thanks :)

I'm sorry for the very very late reply Cordy hopefully this is still of use to you:

Find the following lines in /src/ubeify.py:

Code: Select all

         elif self.player_status=="new" or self.player_status=="next" or self.player_status=="prev":
            self.hungStartTime = 0
            self.player_timeCount = "00:00:00 / 00:00:00"
            self.PLAYER_play()
            self.PLAYER_stop()
            self.player_started = 0

        # blanking time limit
        limit = 10

and add the following 2 lines, making sure to comment out self.PLAYER_play():

Code: Select all

         elif self.player_status=="new" or self.player_status=="next" or self.player_status=="prev":
            self.hungStartTime = 0
            self.player_timeCount = "00:00:00 / 00:00:00"
            #self.PLAYER_play()
            self.PLAYER_stop()
            self.player_started = 0

        # blanking time limit
        limit = 10

Delete ubeify.pyc and restart Ubeify. This will play a file once and stop playback keeping the GUI open.

If you want to exit Ubeify GUI after playback add the line "self.exitPlayer()" instead, making sure to comment out self.PLAYER_play():

Code: Select all

         elif self.player_status=="new" or self.player_status=="next" or self.player_status=="prev":
            self.hungStartTime = 0
            self.player_timeCount = "00:00:00 / 00:00:00"
            #self.PLAYER_play()
            self.exitPlayer()

        # blanking time limit
        limit = 10

Delete ubeify.pyc and restart Ubeify. This will play a file once and exit the GUI.

Hello I'm using Ubeify on a touchscreen to start a video through my own gui wich is specific for a booth at an exhibition.
I would love to be able to start a video through a

Code: Select all

os.system ('ubeify VIDEOPATH.mp4')
into a fullscreen Video with the control panels.
I know it's not pretty but we don't have much time and it works.
But at the moment the video starts in a small window on the top left.
Is there any argument to start it in Fullscreen?
Before I used Ubeify I used

Code: Select all

os.system ('omxplayer VIDEOPATH.mp4')
But I can't stop the video or exit through the Touchscreen.
Either I waited until the video was over or I killed omxplayer over ssh.

Oh and by the way, can I configure somewhere the height of the control panels in fullscreen Videomode?

Thank you in advance
