Media Server

Wed Mar 04, 2015 12:50 pm

I have a few unused Raspberry PI models that are not being used for anything and a brand new Roku media player. Right now instead of having my pc on all the time just to serve media i'm using a USB stick that plugs into the side of it. What is the easiest way to use a raspberry pi with USB drive attached that I can leave on all the time instead of having my PC on?

Basically I'd like to turn my pc on every few days a dump new files onto the hard drive connected to the raspberry pi.

No need to get into detail. I can easily Google around but a point in the right direction would help.

Thanks,
Mike

Assuming your other computer is windows, the easiest way would be to create a samba share on the Pi that the windows PC can access and transfer files to as required.
Dear forum: Play nice ;-)

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

Doesn't the Roku support USB storage?
