Smooth Video, No sound via HDMI

Tue Jan 20, 2015 9:38 am

Running B+ board with Kodi.

No sound when i play any type of video file - perfect video though. Most research online suggests editing my config.txt file. Below is mine.

Code: Select all

arm_freq=850
core_freq=375
force_turbo=1
gpu_mem_512=128
gpu_mem_256=112
disable_overscan=1
start_file=start_x.elf
fixup_file=fixup_x.dat
hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1
config_hdmi_boost=4
hdmi_drive= 2
However this does nothing. Ive also tried HDMI and Analouge but still not luck. 2.0/5.1 dosnt do much either. Seeking any advice here.

Cheers

Have you checked the setting for sound output in Kodi settings?

No luck

sudo raspi-config is for Raspbian NOT Raspbmc

Raspbmc see http://www.raspbmc.com

Ahh sorry about that. I guess I'm at a dead end with trying to use the terminal to fix the issue.

Does anyone else have an idea as to why the audio is broken?

The sound, as stated is configured within the KODI (was XBMC) interface

Hi there.
Believe I have a solution to this,had the same problem,for some reason the audio was muted. You can see this on the desktop on the top right hand corner. If you have a red speaker icon, then it's muted.I used my Samsung s4, with the yatse app to connect to my Rpi2 then pressed the mute button....problem solved. You can also do this with a usb IR remote I bought from a Chinese shop.pressed the mute button...problem solved.a keyboard with a volume mute button can also work.....hope this helps

I have the same problem and tried the same things. The Mute button didn't help. Please, do anyone have any more suggestions?

(Adding update / correcting spelling)

SO - as an update, I WIPED my RPI back to the initial set up, installed VLC and it all works great... sound video, etc.. There is definitely something with KODI.. and I also had a "blank screen" on exit that I saw another post about but never bothered to correct. I think I will wait a bit (or get another SD CARD) before returning to KODI).

ORIGINAL ------------
Hello.. I have the same issue. Everything was working great, then I installed KODI. SOunds and video work fine through KODI, but NO SOUNDS are heard on normal Raspberry PI. I cannot even hear sound through VLC or running test sounds from terminal.

VERY New to RPI.. any ideas/help is appreciated!

Not having a Samsung S4, I had to go NeoRichards route. I reinstalled OpenELEC and re-entered all of my customizations ( a painful process).

Everything's back to normal. I guess I'll never find out what caused the problem after a year of smooth sailing.

Kodi has its own volume settings independent of the overall device ones.

They can be set using a keyboard attached to the device using the + and - keys, or F8 to mute/unmute (see here for the full key list). Simplest way is to just plug in a USB keyboard and press keys.

I found this video useful
@time 02:50 you can see the fix
basically adding these lines should enable sound via hdmi
hdmi_drive=2
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
