Install VNC Server On Kodi On A Raspberry Pi

Tue May 09, 2017 1:28 am

I have created a Kodi addon which uses dispmanx VNC Server which allows you to remotely control your Kodi media center. It should run on any Raspberry Pi 3 running Kodi Krypton or newer. I have tested it on a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ running OSMC, OpenELEC, LibreELEC, and Jessie Lite with Kodi installed. It only runs at about 1-3fps, but i still use it a lot. Get the addon at: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sean6 ... em.vnc.zip or download my repository at: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sean6 ... i.sean.zip. There is no password or ssl so do not run it outside of a firewall.

Hi Sean,
I have tried to install your addon and have no problems. I have used the version out of the zipfile not the repository.
Kodi shows it as running. I use kodi on raspbian and start it from the command line.
But I can't get a connection and nmap to the ip of the pi shows only the ports 22 53 8080 and 9090 open no port 5900 I would expect for vncserver.
Could you give me a hint?

Try using port 0.

Hello Sean,
in the moment the pi is down - weekend is over :-( - I will try it next week I hope,
and I also look for the logfile.
Thanks for your answer

Hello Sean,
I've tried it, but no result, even not in the log files.
So I've started kodi from a ssh session and it says
/home/pi/.kodi/addons/service.system.vnc/bin/vncserver: error while loading shared libraries: libGLESv2.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
so I've linked them, just take one found in chromium browser:
[email protected]:/usr/lib $ sudo ln -s chromium-browser/libGLESv2.so .
[email protected]:/usr/lib $ sudo ln -s chromium-browser/libEGL.so .
Now I 've get the following if I start kodi:
Open display[0]...
Display is 1280 x 720
Server bpp:16
Server bigEndian:0
Server redShift:0
Server blueShift:10
Server greeShift:5
19/03/2018 19:31:07 Listening for VNC connections on TCP port 5900
19/03/2018 19:31:07 Listening for VNC connections on TCP6 port 5900
open /dev/uinput returned -1.
First write returned -1.
ioctl UI_DEV_CREATE returned -1.
Error create uinput device -1.

As expected the server listens on 5900 but he does not do :-(
nmap shows no open port 5900 and connection is not possible.

Any ideas? I do a quick search but found no hint with dispmanx vncserver and the error about uinput device.

ok, I just try the hard way : sudo chmod go+rw /dev/uinput
and I can connect to the pi with krdc (vncviewer), the realvncviewer does not work

Thank you for the addon. Works great!!!

Anything I can do to allow for shared clipboard between windows realvnc viewer and your addon? Would make it easier to enter urls etc.

Thank you
