This is an endless problem with Raspbian, Debian and other Linux distros.
They package well tested and stable versions of everything, which is a good thing. But then you find you want some latest cutting edge feature of whatever program/library it is.
Generally I find that the way to do this is to build the latest version of whatever you want from the upstream project sources.
Such was the case when I wanted Qt5 back when Raspbian only had Qt4. The only thing to do was download the Qt5 sources and build it myself.
Problem is, finding instructions as to how to do that was very hard, most did not work.
Actually doing it took many hours.
Times have changed since then but you could start from here: https://wiki.qt.io/Native_Build_of_Qt5_ ... spberry_Pi
