Scare Wars Project

Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:24 am

Hello,

I have a program written with Delphi 7 that runs on Windows XP and Windows 7. I am working on a project called Scare Wars. It is a system that scares birds away so that they don't fly into air planes or jets at Air Ports around the world. I discovered the Rasberry Pi and I have 4 of them. They are Rasberry Pi A and B Models. They are the first ones NOT Pi2. After doing my research and getting the Pi's to run Raspbian I tried other OS systems to see if they will run. Seems only the Raspbian will run on the Pi. So here is my issue.

The old programmer has left the project and it has fallen into my hands to take over. I have Scare Wars source code that was written in Delphi 7 ported out to Windows XP. The program runs fine and I'm setting up Delphi 7 on a Windows XP machine so I can begin to work and compile new code. I am not a programmer but I have been hacking at different programs throughout the years so I have some experience. I need to know if Delphi 7 will export the project to Linux? specifically Rasbian for the Rasberry Pi. I could use any suggestions that might lead me down the right path. I think I can handle the coding. I am just not sure I can compile this to run on the Rasberry Pi. This might be a good experience for someone. I heard the whole Rasberry idea was based on Teaching and learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well , roll up your sleeves and polish your programming skills. Obviously Delphi 7 never directly supported the Pi and never will.

You can try to rewrite/port the project to Lazarus/FreePascal , which does work on the Raspberry/Raspbian (and Windows).
It should be the easiest path considering the alternatives , but i do not know how easy it is in practice.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

Thanks ghans. I will take a look at it. I think I am going to need more help than I thought. I wonder if there are any interns from schools that would be willing to help me tackle this?

Hi Sir Jim. Im an engineering student from philippines and managed similar encounter upon building my project. Actually sir, you can copy the project files that was written on the windows and copy it to your raspberry pi, and let the raspbery pi compile it for you, tho there are some libraries that the windows have and linux doesnt.
