Sat May 08, 2021 4:05 pm

Relative newbie here and I would like to install BBC Basic, but I haven't found any instructions on how it's done. Can anyone help? Thanks.

My internet search tool quickly suggested viewtopic.php?f=34&t=238187 (in these forums) and https://popey.com/blog/2021/01/raspberr ... -to-basic/

(Not a recommendation, just for information... )

Thanks for the reply. Your first suggestions has 32 pages of posts to look through. Asearch of that forum did not yeild any results. The second is booting to thr RPi to Basic not BBC Basic.

RiscOS Operating System is likely the best option if you can not be bothered with the multi-page post:

The information is out there....you just have to let it in.

I thought the very first post in the first link told me all I needed to know - viewtopic.php?f=34&t=238187#p1455678
It may be downloaded as a precompiled binary in the form of a Zip file or the source code, libraries and examples may be obtained from GitHub.

And the second blog post concludes with
So I now have a Raspberry Pi 400 which boots directly into BBC BASIC.... I may also re-visit PC BASIC
Clearly we are reading that differently...

But the RiscOS suggestion is a good one.

Edit: to add - I have just downloaded the linked Zip file, unpacked it, followed the Install instructions, run ./bbcsdl and it all works.

What OS? If you want to run BBC BASIC in Raspbian (sorry Raspberry Pi OS!) then download this zip file, extract the contents (preferably into its own directory so it doesn't get mixed up with other stuff) and follow the instructions in the install-rpi.txt file that has been extracted.

Thank you. This is what I needed. I have it installed and working.
