RPI2 Eclipse CDT Install

Thu Feb 05, 2015 3:40 pm

Now the PI has some more horsepower would it be possible to get eclipse installed on the PI and compile and test locally?

The version of eclipse in the raspbian repo is really old but i dont know how to get one of the newer ones running? Can I compile eclipse from source or am I missing something?

It's a java application, so just down load a tar ball, untar it somewhere like /opt and then run "/opt/eclipse/bin/ecipse"

https://eclipse.org/downloads/packages/ ... pers/lunar is where to get the C/C++ developers version from.
The 32 bit Linux version should work... eclipse-cpp-luna-R-linux-gtk.tar.gz

BUT, it is a memory hog, so although it will be better on a PI2 it may still be a bit slow. Let us know how you get on.

I've downloaded eclipse-cpp-luna-R-linux-gtk.tar.gz but it has a binary file eclipse which won't run?

Is there a different file I should have downloaded?

Hmmmm ... I'm surprised but checking on a PC here it is a shell script, BUT in then runs a binary.... I can't help anymore until I'm infront of a PI at home this evening.

Sorry,

Maybe the best course is to ask for the version in Raspbian to be updated if possible ?

Is there a newer version of Eclipse that will run on the Pi 2? If so, what does one do to get it installed and working?

I've been trying to solve this today and no joy. My results are documented here:
http://www.raspberry-projects.com/pi/pr ... berry-pi-2

Looks like eclipse with cdt is currently too unstable for the RPi2?

Hello,

I've found a workaround in order to get a working eclipse CDT on the raspberry pi. Here are the steps:
  • Open a terminal window and install eclipse by typing

    Code: Select all

    sudo apt-get install eclipse
  • Start it from Menu -> Programming -> Eclipse and choose a workspace
  • Import an existing JAVA project
  • Close eclipse
  • Now type in your terminal

    Code: Select all

    sudo apt-get install eclipse-cdt
  • Start eclipse once again and you get CDT support
Hope this helps.

I ran into the same binary file for Eclipse startup. Then I tried to start a jar directly but no success so far.
