Codeblocks Crashes

Sat Apr 07, 2018 3:33 pm

I just updated Raspbian so i can work with the New Pi3B+. to install code::blocks I used

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install codeblocks
it installed code:Blocks 16.01, which crashes all the time e.g. if I scroll to fast, some time just pasting code exc. Is there a way to download a pervious version? I have tried:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install codeblocks=13.12
but I get:

Code: Select all

Version '13.12' for 'codeblocks' was not found
even though there is a version 13.12 of codeblocks.
Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks

Yes, having the same problem with a fresh install of the latest raspbian just this week. I'm tryna do my homework here and it keeps just closing and losing my work every 30 seconds to 10 minutes. I don't suppose you've found a solution?

Interesting.

I have just bought a pi3B+ and loaded Code:blocks to egt back to a little 'C' coding.

Hell when the IDE just crashes out as described above.

Both of these posts are several months old and no solution has been offered.

There is a Code::Blocks v17.12 avalable but I am not sure it can be directly installed e.g.:

[sudo apt-get install codeblocks] etc.

Does anyone have a solution?

I haven't found a fix. Saw some chatter about it being a big overhaul and not an easy patch, but not clear on what the issue really is. I keep meaning to make myself get used to Geany, but it seems like quite a hassle. I end up switching between leafpad and Code::Blocks. Also a hassle.

It's fairly easy to build the latest version yourself. I've tested the 17.12 release, and also the nightly builds, both build and run OK.

I spent a few minutes with Geany last night. I got the compiler to generate the object but could not find the linker to finish the job.

Also, There is a now a 17.2 version of Code::Blocks; but I could not get it up. I installed in the usual way but when I clicked on <programming><Code::Blocks> I still got 16.01. I removed Code::Blocks and still got v16.01. When I originally installed 16.01 it automatically placed the link in the menu under <Programming> but does not appear to have done so with v17.2!

The Code::Blocks group needs to look at these things.

Youy cannot be following the build instructions correctly. They worked fine for me.

Think these are the ones I used.

I cleared (removed) both v16.01 ans 17.2 and then attempted an install of 17.2... But still got v16.01!

The command I used was: "sudo apt-get install codeblocks 17.2"

Later I will take a longer look at that wiki page. On first glance there seems to be no x86_x64 directory under the usr/lib path! I think there should be. This is a new RPi 3B+ it is supposed to be the Broadcom 64bit processor.

With a space? That will try installing "codeblocks" (current version) and something called "17.2" which won't be found.

No, there shouldn't.

Yes. Which would be aarch64, not x86_64 which is what PCs use. However, in Raspbian you are running in 32-bit mode, which is armhf.

The latest version of codeblocks in the repo is 16.x, the latest official release is 17.12. We are currently looking at updating the repo to the latest official version.

Looking around the Code::Blocks website in an attempt to find something useful I came upon a reference to v17.2.

Perhaps it is a beta version that is not yet ready for release.

That might explain why when I try to download it using 'apt-get' it is returning v16.01 as the most recent available.

It's just that it hasn't made its way into Debian yet.

I've pushed 17.12 to the repo. Please let me know if there are any issues.

Awwwwsssome, thank you!

A quick google search indicates that I could update to the new version (which I do see after apt-get update) with
' sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade <packagename> '
Is this recommended or am I better off saving all my projects elsewhere, then doing a complete uninstall with a fresh apt-get install... ?
