Interfacing an IR Sensor with RPi and I2C Driver

Tue Jun 19, 2018 8:22 pm

Hello all,

I am relatively new to implementing projects within the Raspberry Pi, but I am trying to read data from an I2C infrared sensor (32x24 array).

There is a github library (link below) which contains the functions and header files needed to read the data from the sensor, but I am really unsure what my next steps should be if my end goal is to be able to read the stream of data coming in from the sensor.

A couple of my questions are as follow:
-> What should I be doing with the function and header files? I understand that I likely need to compile the files into an executable; but I don't have a MakeFile.
-> Is there a way for me to utilize Python and these function/header files in order to read the data?

The github library is as follows: https://github.com/melexis/mlx90640-library

If the task is still relevant, you can use the Python library from here: https://github.com/bsdz/mlx90640-library

You can also write a script to read data from the sensor from scratch, but it will be rather cumbersome due to the calculations of the compensation of signals from pixels. The structure of the sensor itself is described in great detail in the manufacturer’s datasheet.

because when l run it it says cffi no such file or directory...
thank you
