RFID-RC522 reading and writing

Fri Apr 18, 2014 12:21 pm

Hello,
I just bought a RFID reader and writer and I got it working using this tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/Attenda ... -software/ and using this script: https://github.com/mxgxw/MFRC522-python but I don't have a clue how to write and read mifare cards except for there UID. I have searched all over Google but I can't seem to find a answer. And if possible is it possible to see what type of card this is?
Thanks,
Zacy5000

PS: I have a RFID-RC522 reader/writer module.

Also in the https://github.com/mxgxw/MFRC522-python script it cointains lots of functions and 1 is for read and 1 is for write but I don't have a clue how to use it.
Thanks,

Hello does anyone test RFID RC522 on Raspberry Pi 2?
I install and enable GPIO and see the reader in /dev folder, but if I launch https://github.com/mxgxw/MFRC522-python read.py procedure nothing append when I test the RFID cards.
Any check or solution?
Thanks

Same question as this last guy. I have the module, and have tried a few different libraries written for it. None of them respond. However, when I send raw SPI commands, and can get logical responses back, so I know I am hooked up right. When I wired the chip to an Arduino, it responded perfectly, so its not the chip either. But I can't seem to get it to read any tags. Any help would be great, I am lost.
(PS, it is a pi 2, if that makes some difference)

I faced the same problem you are facing. The thing is, in RPi 2 they have changed peripheral base addresses thats why mxgxw's library is not working. Please check http://www.airspayce.com/mikem/bcm2835/ and http://bsd.ee/~hadara/blog/?p=1017 and use these to read and write RC522.

Dear Saadnasir,

I am facing the same problem (I am using Rpi 512MB Model B+),
could you give me how to proceed exactly to resolve the address problems.

Cordially,
MB

Hi All,

I was working with Raspberry pi B+, faced many issues with lot of examples in online to read the cards correctly, after all the search i finally found one reference which is working for all type of cards. Please use the below link this works fine and i tested it with lot of sample cards.
