SMTP email -- worked fine, now nothing

Sat Nov 07, 2020 9:08 pm

I had a python script I wrote a few years ago that sends email and it always worked flawlessly. My password is right, using gmail and port 587. Now, I tried to use it today (did NOT touch the code whatsoever) and it doesn't work at all.

Has "something" changed?
-- thanks

Maybe? Can't see your code and no idea how it is failing so "maybe" is all you get...

Haven't touched the code -- thought a quick question regarding any other possible factors is a place to start.

Maybe.

I may have to check the gmail security settings again -- I'm sure that still gets in the way? If so, my bad.

Gmail has a habit of changing your security setting for allow less secure apps to off if the account has not been used for a while.

It might also see the pi as a new device so you will have a security email from gmail , asking if this was you that tried to connect , you need to click on the link and confirm it was you on your device.

Once you have checked these two possible problems , if you still cant send mail then you need to give more details about your set up.

include
pi model
OS running on it
which smtp server you are using to send mail
and your code thats no longer working.
