Receive (only) text messages on a PI with python

Can someone point me in the right direction (tutorial maybe) on how this can be done? I've seen some articles on sending text messages with python but I just want to, if possible, have a python script check for an incoming message from any number and display the message text. I have no experience with this. -- THANKS.
