Optimizing ZBar QR reader?

Wed May 06, 2015 8:10 pm

At the moment, I use ZBar with the camera module through the Raspbian terminal by these commands:

Code: Select all

~ $ sudo modprobe bcm2835-v4l2
~ $ v4l2-ctl --overlay=1
~ $ zbarcam -v --nodisplay --prescale=640x480
The range at which I can read a 4 in. by 4 in. QR code is no more than 3.5 ft. and it takes maybe 5 or 6 seconds for ZBar to actually detect and decode it. I know that you can write programs in Python using import zbar but I am wondering what the best way to increase the range and decrease the processing time is.

All ideas and suggestions appreciated.

Hi,
Have you overclocked the Pi2?
I'm getting pretty much immediate recognition - albeit at close range - using the following:

gpu_mem=256
force_turbo=1
arm_freq=1100
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=500
over_voltage=6
temp_limit=80
boot_delay=0
disable_splash=1

This actually worked wonders, thank you so much.
