Pi hostspot trouble (Raspbian Wheezy)

Thu Jan 01, 2015 6:03 am

Hi,

I'll keep this sweet and short.
I've set up motion on a Vanilla B Pi, to be used as a security camera on a fire spotting tower I work in.

I successfully managed to set up an RTL8188CU as a wifi hotspot, and can connect and authenticate well, and it relays packets across the bridge just fine.

The problem:
when I disconnect the LAN, and attempt to connect to the wifi AP again, it times out trying to authenticate, or it times out trying to obtain an IP addess.

Using raspbian wheezy and hostapd
I have replaces the hostapd binary with one prepared for the RTL8188CU.

looking for a pointer in the right direction, as I have only just discovered this 12 hours before it's due to go into service.
all other tests work fine.

I will attempt to connect using fixed IP and test the results - however as I will be connecting with a non-rooted android device to retrieve the pictures via samba shares, fixed IP will not be an option in the field.

Additional:

Fixed IP settings do not help.

Reboot without LAN:
instant connection rejection

Connect LAN after rejection:
no change

Rebooted - Connected ok with LAN, then removed LAN:
instant rejection

Connect LAN and reboot:
successful connection and samba sharing.

perhaps this is a NAT issue... anyone?
