Change Raspbian default file mgr.

I placed this request on the "Advanced" user forum without success - so here we go again....
I have tried unsuccessfully several methods of changing to Thunar as the default file manager. I often forget and double click a folder icon and then have to close PCMAN, and then re-open with Thunar. Thunar is SOoo... much better!
Thunar provides generic linux instructions for making it the default file manager but Raspbian apparently does things a little different.
Does anybody know what is needed to make thunar the default file manager when you click on a folder?
Thanks - jz
