I did a couple of years of Coral 66 back in the early 1980's. For Marconi Radar.
Yes, Coral was similar enough to Algol to be picked up quickly. I had never heard of it before starting at Marconi Radar. They took me on as a contractor anyway. Didn't get any training in Coral either. Just had to wing it based on my experience of Algol back in uni.
I wrote one program in Coral and after that everything was in Pascal. OH!! Except for ... TA DA!!! ... Babbage!
I had forgotten about Babbage until now. Another UK programming language. Or possibly assembler, depending on how you looked at it.
If i remember rightly, I wrote GEC's first screen editor in Babbage. They were paranoid about the amount of CPU it took to do single character interaction so I designed an editor that took advantage of the buffered mode of the (Hazeltine?) terminals and was as efficient as a line editor.
Probably the only useful contribution I ever made to that company

No. 1980 to 1983, or thereabouts I was at the Marconi Radar R&D labs in Great Baddow. A few years later I did two years as a contractor at Marconi Radar, Writtle Rd, Chelmsford. That's where the Coral 66 thing happened.
