Realtime Multiplayer

Tue Dec 08, 2015 1:46 am

Hello there. Im waiting for my rasperry pi2 to ship here and was trying to think what to do with it... I've always been a game making person. So what do you think is the best to use on Rpi2 for a realtime multiplayer game.. Fe. Top down team based shooter. I got basic understanding of C#.

A topdown shooter would be fun, and it'd make for some interesting gameplay mechanics... I've always wanted to make one but I still haven't gotten around to learning a programming language
Engineers like to solve problems. If there are no problems handily available, they will create their own problems.

Yeah. It would. I just need some information on what I should use to make it. Since I have 0 experience with rasperry pi and it's operating systems.

Use Python + Pygame?
Pretty easy to get some sprites moving with key-presses and then work from there.

I received this answer on reddit. So im not sure if i still should.
pygame is bound to a software rendering library, and it quite slow on the rpi. You can mix in opengl es, but you will have to have a good understanding of it and pygame doesnt provide anything to make it easy, aside from image loading and managing an opengl drawing context. Pygame can handle input, sounds, and music decently enough."

Pi3D might indeed be a better choice performance-wise.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

IIm concerned of the limited amount of documentation found for Pi3d and since Pi3d is more for the 3d I Might try love2d. It seemed pretty good and just the thing for my needs.
