Visual HTML editor

Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:25 am

I recently managed to blow up my Pi (my fault) and I'm rebuilding.

Previously, I was using a great visual HTML editor called Iceape, but apt-get can't seem to find it now. Is it still available? If not, is there another visual editor available?

For the sake of clarity and brevity, please note that this isn't a "should I use a visual or text-based editor" question. I know that I want the visual option.

As of December 2013 the Iceape package is no longer being maintained by the Debian project and users are encouraged to migrate to other packages for security patches.

Bluefish should be available from the repositories though.......

Thanks. I just tried Bluefish but it seems to be a text editor with a "preview in browser" option. That's not really the same thing.

Are there any visual (i.e. what we used to call WYSIWYG) editors available now that Iceape has retired?

Bluefish is fine - means you have to know what you are doing - a good thing IMHO ;)

There used to be nvu which became kompozer but they are both gone now.

Unfortunately not. But Iceape still runs on Jessie. Just download and install the Wheezy packages.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer
