SQL Server Error 18456

Cannot connect to sql server. An error message: SQL Server Error 18456
Please help! Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated

If you got that error, then you did connect, you just didn't authenticate. I recommend checking the username and password you have on the SQL Server machine itself. Also, verify that the SQL Server instance is configured to permit remote login (unless you are logging in over ssh).
Should array indices start at 0 or 1? My compromise of 0.5 was rejected without, I thought, proper consideration. ~Stan Kelly-Bootle

The error reason An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. can be returned in the following situation:
When the server is configured for mixed mode authentication, and an ODBC connection uses the TCP protocol, and the connection does not explicitly specify that the connection should use a trusted connection. To resolve this issue, include TRUSTED_CONNECTION = TRUE in the connection string or you can fix sql error here.
