The MPU6050 would do pitch & roll directly. You would just need to integrate aZ Twice In softwaew to get heave.

For those of us who understand coordinate transforms with roll, pitch, yaw, and translation, could someone explain "heave"?

Post-post Addendum - Oh, okay, I just Googled for "roll pitch heave" and have been enlightened. Nevermind!

Getting and calculating heave are two very different tasks. Thanks I'll have a look

Not sure what you mean, but if you come up with a motion sensor which will reliably and directly measure heave of a moving vehicle relative to a reference plane then let me know
