Stripping down OS to make java program smoother

Basically i have a java program that i want to run. I am going to use a pi in my car to run that program exclusively. It is a gui java program (Not written by me). What is the best way to get it to run? I basically just need this program. What stuff can i take out of the stock OS to free up the cpu/ram?

I forgot to add. I am running the newest raspbian with the hardfloat java installed.

Other than adjusting the GPU memory split to free more memory, nothing else will have any perceptible impact on it. It is also quite possible that adjusting the GPU memory split will have no impact on performance, but it depends on what your mystery java program does.
