iPad to RPi over GPIO?

Tue May 21, 2013 5:11 am

So I understand you can use a TTL cable to access the Linux console over GPIO from a PC. But would it be possible to access the console this way from an iPad (specifically, the iPad Mini)? Say, using a TTL to USB, with a USB to Lightning port connector?

After googling , it looks like you have to pay 70 $ for
a "chipped" cable (Apple Accessory Program) or jailbreak and
solder it yourself (should be really easy , but have not done
latter myself).

Good luck !

Just a though, though I don't know exactly what you want. You might achieve what you want without a cable. WebSSH on my IPad (installed from the App Store) gives me access to the Raspberry Pi terminal over WiFi. Obviously that works at home using your router. If you want to do something similar "out and about" without a router you can either set the Raspberry to behave like a Wifi hotspot, or buy a small portable router. TP-Link sell a very small one.

If your Raspberry does not have WiFi, but is connected to your router via Ethernet, then you can still WebSSH into it from an IPad/ IPod. All much easier than physical cables.
