full documentation for Model B

Fri Dec 21, 2012 12:14 pm

If I would buy a Raspberry PI model B, how can I get some complete, detailed technical documentation about it? And can you tell me how muck memory the video card has? Thank you very much!

What sort of information are you looking for? The HW schematic I believe is now available, and there's lots of information around on the headers etc. Processor/GPU specs are on the Wiki. Or are you talking about SW?

As to a video card...it doesn't have one. There is 512MB on the Model B which is shared between the Arm and the Videocore (GPU). The videocore does all the graphics acceleration. You can specify a specific split, or recent software allows a minimum split and then the memory is 'moved' from one to the other as necessary.

I need some full hardware schematic about the CPU, GPU, ram memory and all the hardware, because I would like to improve the operating system that is recommended for it. Thank you in advance!

The SoC is completely closed and a secret , what kind of schematic do you
want ? Broadcom has released a shortended datasheet , and ARM provides
the Architecture Reference Manual on their InfoCenter webpage.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

... because I would like to improve the operating system ...
Look at the Bare-Metal sub-forum, and in particular Baking Pi

Actually, just the GPU is secret, the Arm is obviously open, and with the Arm side libs OSS someone could make a good go at getting GPU acceleration working from anywhere.
