Raspberry Pi Zero as a HID gadget in Mac EFI

Fri Jun 14, 2019 3:58 am

I have a Raspberry Pi Zero W as a HID keyboard gadget, it is recognized by any computer and can send keystrokes without a problem. On a Mac, it can send Command + R keystrokes simultaneously, holding the keys until released.
However, the gadget does not seem to work in Mac EFI. EFI just does not seem to recognize Pi as a HID device.
Other external keyboards (like Logitech or Apple keyboards) work fine in EFI.

I've also tried modifying parts of the USB descriptor for RPi gadget to match with Apple keyboard's configuration. It did not work.

Has anyone succeeded in having RPi send keystrokes / mouse input in Mac EFI?
Please share some insights. Thank you very much in advance.
