the Compute Module eMMC

Tue May 14, 2019 8:33 am

Hi all,

I was looking for a RPI without all the connector, and i found that "Compute Module eMMC".

I can see some "dev board" with the support for the SD card, i'm looking for the documentation, but I can't found any answer to my question, maybe it's to obvious...

But if I have that CM and I put an SD card with raspbian, it will work fine?
Or i need to make some trick with that CM and SD card?

the CM : https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/co ... plus-32gb/
the Dev board : https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/co ... ent-kit-2/

Thanks a lot,

Skaf.

The Compute Module is aimed at the corporate market where it will be used as the "brains" of mass-produced devices. It uses an SODIMM edge connector (the same sort as used on laptop memory modules - but with different electrical connections, not laptop compatible).

Most Compute Modules have an eMMC flash chip to store the software instead of using the SD card, apart from the CM3L and CM3L+ versions which don't have the eMMC memory so must be connected to an external SD card.

The Dev board is designed for developing and testing projects to run on the CM range. It brings out various interfaces from the CM, although it doesn't have things like the USB Hub/Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth etc.

The idea is that you develop your project with a CM and Dev board, then fabricate custom carrier boards with the interfaces and peripherals you require and plug the CM into that.
