Manufacture a custom Rasp at large scale

Mon Nov 12, 2018 6:51 pm

Hello Rasp fellows:
Anyone knows if is there a company that can manufacture a custom Rasp at large scale >1000?.
For example, I do not need the ethernet port and some other HW. On the other hand I need the board has the custom OS and certificate pre installed.

thank you in advance.

marcelo

Their MOQ is 5000, slightly more than your 1000, but I'm sure you can cope.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by
I need the board has the custom OS and certificate pre installed
. Perhaps you could elucidate.

Welcome to the forum! A custom manufactured board, even if it only means leaving a few components out during assembly, will likely not reduce costs. If the goal is to have a custom OS and other things installed, all you need is an SD card duplicator and someone to manage the packaging. It may still be worth contacting Farnell for volume pricing either way.

Perhaps the OP should be looking at the Compute Module line and designing a custom carrier board with only what he needs exposed on.

There is no on-board storage for an OS on the consumer Raspberry Pi hardware. Everything is on the SD card.

The Compute Module 3 is available with on-board eMMC, which can be flashed with an OS, but the CM3 will require a custom carrier board for power and I/O connections.

Unfortunately, if our OP wishes to install Raspbian, it will not fit on the CM3. They'll either have to get the NEC 16GB version, or get the CM3L and add their own eMMC

Raspbian Lite would fit, besides, the OP said custom OS (no mention of Raspbian).

Most of the time I see somebody mention a "custom OS", they simply mean they customised their Raspbian install, installed some software or made some config.txt edits or cron jobs.

I suspect we will never know, since he has not reposted since the first one.

I would assume this is in reference to WiFi compliance.
