I am looking for a power source OTHER that the GPIO pins as I need them for my 40pin cable assembly to my breadboard.
You could run wires back from the power points on the breadboard for your fan, or use another mains PSU wallwart for supplying the fan's power, which might be the best recommendation anyway.
If you use pin headers on the wires supplying the power from breadboard or PSU you can unplug the fan from those and connect directly to GPIO when the breadboard is not being used.
Note that there's not usually no need to use a fan with a Pi anyway, so perhaps just don't use one, or not when using the breadboard.
