Switching 24V - 220V AC with Triac and Opto (Schematic)

Thu Aug 09, 2018 3:34 pm

I am designing an interface for Raspberry to switch AC voltages from 24V AC up to 220V AC.
Simple ON/OFF, nothing fancy.
Current will not exceed 0.5A.
MOC3063 is used to drive a BT134 like below:

Would that work? I plan on not using any heatsink.

There are plenty of packaged solid state relays that will do the same job with fewer components. Is there a good reason to re-invent the SSR?

No :)
I was not aware (of small size SSRs). Another friend pointed to the right direction too.
Thank you!

Not sure what you found but the OPTO22 MP120D4 probably fits your needs and it is about 1"x1.5"x0.5" (rough eyeball measure).

OPTO22 MP120D4 supports up to 2A and this makes a great difference in the price (and size, although it isn't huge either).
If I set the current to as low as 0.5A I get results for 3-4 USD.
Will keep OPTO22 MP120D4 in mind for future projects. Thanks!
