Multiple pi cameras

Thu Jul 13, 2017 5:15 pm

Hi all,

I want to capture, collect, and merge all photos from multiple pi cams (e.g., 20 cams) while triggering a GPIO button or any input event. Could someone share what it will be a nice way to make this work? Basically, the requirement is to get all photos back to a RPi or a computer for the further processing. What will be a good data transfer mechanism/ protocol ? Many thanks!

compoundpi might be an useful building block for your project.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

Zero's Plus USB hubs.
Boot Zero's from USB so no SD card needed.

Probably will need GPIO triggers, not sure if the is a USB equivalent of the UDP broadcast?

You will need to think about how much "jitter" you can accept in when the pictures are taken. For extreme precision, say below milliseconds, I am not sure you can make the standard Pi camera to react that fast. This will influence how you trigger the picture processes in the network of Pi-s. Depending on your requirements you could connect the Pi-s over a wifi-network, over wired internet or using a separate hardware line for the triggering.

AIUI that is not possible.

(And we don't need the grocers' apostrophe, thankyou.)

Actually it may be possible. The CM can be booted over a USB link with code that turns it into a USB storage device using the SD card. The same code works (I think) for a Zero. I think there is similar code that can put the zero into USB boot mode.

I feel your pain.
