I want to do a few security based projects, so my question is "does the Raspberry Pi Zero W's wifi support monitor (promiscuous) mode?"

My Pi3 doesn't so I guess the zero won't either as apparently the same chip.

Yes:

Either get the seemoo labs driver built : https://github.com/seemoo-lab/nexmon

or just download a Kali Nethunter image from https://build.nethunter.com/nexmon-pi-builds/ Rpi3 and Rpi0w images are available.

Regards

I've tried mounting the images at https://build.nethunter.com/nexmon-pi-builds, but they hang. Could it be that my Pi 0 W is a later version than what these were tested on? Mine has the wifi built into the board. Thanks

What do you mean by "mounting the images"? What do you mean by "hang" - exactly what happens?

All RPi ZeroWs have Wi-Fi built into the board.

I meant that I had flashed the image onto the sd card in the pi. And by "hang", I meant that that nothing happened after that. It is now working for some reason. Not sure what I did.. The wifi goes into monitor mode etc etc. Thank you anyway, for being kind enough to reply. :)
