Gigabit USB 2.0 Adapter on the PI?

Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:18 am

Is there any reason why a 1 gigabit USB network adapter would not work on the PI? Data transfer would improve a great deal if it was using that network speed. I ahve seen this adpater:

Thanks.

It won't be true Gigabit (you'll be limited to 480 megabits/s) and you'll have to deal with the still fairly buggy USB firmware, but I don't really see why not!
{sig} Setup: Original version Raspberry Pi (B, rev1, 256MB), Dell 2001FP monitor (1600x1200), 8GB Class 4 SD Card with Raspbian and XBMC, DD-WRT wireless bridge

Just tried the LevelOne USB-0401 Gigabit USB adapter on the RPi B (o;

Code: Select all

speed set to 100MB: performance: 99.41MBits/sec
speed set to 1000MB: performance: 54.28MBits/sec
Don't have much time now to investigate this strange behavior...as I'm more busy with the different codec performances...

Maybe got some time next week to hook up a Cisco C3750G-12S-S to investigate more and log some errors...

At least this USB adapter works out of the box on the RPi :-)

Maybe auto/gig settings just a guess though.

Nope...auto/fixed speed/duplex settings don't change anything...also cabling not....

Sadly there is no USB GB fibre adapter ;-)

That's why I want to hook it up to a Cisco C3750G-12S-S....but those SFP-T adapters are sometimes a nightmare as well ;-)
