Pulseaudio 9.0 on Rasbian Jessie?

Thu Dec 15, 2016 6:59 am

Hi,

I'm a newbie on pulseaudio but I need to get echo cancellation with webrtc working on pulseaudio (I have speakers and a microphone and I get instant feedback without when using Mumble, headphones are not an option). I've tried so many different "guides" but without any luck. Could the problem be that pulseaudio version is only 5 on Raspbian? Why is there such an old version? And is there a guide on how to upgrade it to 9.0 where echo cancellation seems to been really good?

I know that I can compile one but is there an easier way, or are there any reasons why it is still 5.0 on Rasbian?

Raspbian based of Debian err on the side of stability for packages, hence why many older well tested packages are offered.

Though Stretch Testing does offer pulseaudio 9.0: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/pulseaudio
